My husband and I rented Chantal's RV for 7 nights to go to Yosemite NP and Monterey/Big Sur. The van worked great for the first night and we were able to see its potential - would be awesome for boondocking, it's easy to drive and a very comfortable size for the two of us. Chantal and her sister were very friendly and helpful, they walked us through how the van worked before leaving. Unfortunately, the inverter stopped working the second day we had it. We spent many hours of our vacation time on the phone with the van owners as well as Storyteller and Volta (the inverter company) trying to find a solution. We were recommended to hook up to shore power by the Volta rep (which in Big Sur cost us about $70 for the night) and did not solve the problem. The batteries did not charge without the Volta system working and, therefore, for the rest of the week we needed to conserve power in any way we could. The 110 volt outlets were also not working so we could not use the induction cooktop (had to take more time out to buy a propane cook top - Chantal reimbursed us for what we paid for the cook top). Without the 110 volt outlets we also couldn't charge our laptops which resulted in my husband not being able to work from the van which had been his plan. Conserving battery meant no heat at night and no inverter meant no A/C during the day. During this time the owners were very responsive and, although unable to help, tried very hard to help us figure out a solution to our problem. We realize this was no one's fault and these things happen and in no way blame them for these issues. We do, however, feel that we did not get what we paid for and spent our vacation time trying to sort all of this out as well as we spent more money than we had intended staying in campgrounds and eating out. We were also not nearly as comfortable (or able to work) without all the amenities the inverter and batteries would provide. Chantal and her sister offered us a refund of approx $300. We asked for about twice that amount and asked them only to refund us only for what we would have paid for a similar van rental in the area without an inverter (we looked at comps in the area and were more than fair with our comparisons in that the best match we could find still would have offered us more amenities than we had without a working inverter or batteries). We were declined this request. We don't agree with this decision and will be filing a dispute with Outdoorsy. All this being said, the van when working properly is an awesome machine. I would not rent this vehicle again, however, as I don't think our situation was taken seriously by the owners.
