Hands down best way to explore and truly *experience* Maui like a local is in our 1998 Dodge Ram camper van AKA the Green Machine #2 (G2). She's truly a work of art and great for a family or solo vlamping experience. She has a/c and heater, 2 separate sleeping areas, a queen size and a full, one of which can be converted into a table/seating area with tons of storage underneath. Open the back doors and out slides a gas stove with pots, pans, utinsils, French press, anything you need to make a delicious meal out in the beauty of nature.Do you enjoy finding your own adventure and exploring off the beaten path? Paddle around the Pacific Ocean with whales in the distance (we have a SUP board for rent, way cheaper than tourist rentals by the beach) come back to your van, rinse off in the outdoor shower, and take a nap while you listen to the waves gently rolling in. Open a bottle of wine and have dinner with a beautiful Hawaii sunset as your backdrop.There are lots of places to legally camp over night. Happy to help anyone who has booked find a place. You can NOT park on the side of the Hana Highway to jump into waterfalls. You will get ticketed, lose your deposit, and of course be responsible for any tickets/fines.
No driving to Hana, the back road to Hana, and no driving up to the Crater. There is very limited cell reception in both of these areas and tow trucks will not go up there.
