Vagrid - named by our daughter for the larger than life personality in Harry Potter - is our beloved family van that was built out by Dave and Matt Vans out of Eagle, CO.My wife and I have taken this to many trail races over the year and our daughter thinks camping in the van - even in our driveway - is the coolest. But as life gets more busy, we find that like a dog that needs to run, Vagrid needs someone to come over and help stretch his legs.We oriented the bed to sleep front to back, rather than side to side, but sleep however suits you best. Sleeping the way we set it up, the bed is larger than a queen, but just shy of a king bed. My wife, young daughter and I are able to sleep very comfortably up top together. Before our lab passed, she slept below the bed against the wall as this is where she felt most comfortable. If you don't have a dog, you can easily set up a sleeping pad on the ground for a third person if the weather turns. One particularly stormy night, we had 4 people in the van and our dog! Two on the bed, and three on the floor with the dog.Our goal is to let people get a taste the van life - especially if they are considering getting their own van - and see how they like it. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out.We also offer a "Drop Camp" rental option in which we drive to a set location, get the camper set up for you, and you can use the van like a trailer without having to drive it. Please select this add on if you would like this service. We currently offer three locations (Buffalo Creek, Guanella Pass and Buena Vista /Salida). You get all the creature comforts of van life without having to drive it! Please feel free to contact us for more infoService Updates:

RecommendationsI highly recommend if you are just trying out van life for the first time to select a destination you know well and camp there! If you are coming from tent camping, the experience is quite different, but extremely rewarding. We often recommend people check out Buena Vista if they are just looking to get away. it's only 1.5 hours away from where you'll pick up the van and is a great little place to camp.If you are a trail runner or a MTB rider, the van makes a great race home base. We love parking at the finish line and rolling out the van door and onto the starting lineOther things to noteDogs are allowed. Cats are not; sorry we are very allergic. We ask that you not bring your dog if they like to chew on things or pee inside when they are nervous. Otherwise we love having dogs. Our late Annabella loved every minute in this van and we are sure your dog will too. Please note the van is FWD and not 4WD. That said, we have never had any issues going into reasonable spots. Just take it slow and you should be fine. That said, if a road is really rutted out and extremely rocky, might not be the best place for Vagrid. But we've only backed out of two spots in the last 3 years, so you should be fine!Smoking in the van is a $500 fine.
Failure to empty the toilet before coming back results in a $100 cleaning fee. RV toilet paper only please.

Vagrid was amazing! We had a blast, and he worked perfectly for our runaway road trip! Everything we needed was included, couldn’t have asked for better.

We rented Vagrid for our 25th anniversary and spent a week traveling the wilds of Colorado. We visited Buena Vista, Crested Butte, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Grand Mesa and Carbondale. Overall the van, while large, was easy to drive and very maneuverable. Gas mileage seemed pretty good as we spent just over $200 in gas for 7 days of travel.

Q.What flexibility is available for picking up and dropping off the RV?
A.
We are fairly flexible for when you want to pick up the van. We normally work from home and can accommodate most schedules, unless we have to get our daughter somewhere. Let us know what time works for you and we can more than likely accommodate you!

Q.Can we leave our car at your place?
A.
Yes! We have an off street parking spot available for all renters for a single car only. A second car is an add of $10 a day (see add ons)

Q.Fuel Type and Gas Tank
A.
We use unleaded fuel in our van. Van will be provided to you full and is expected to be returned that way. A $100 charge is added to your return invoice if it is not.
