I rented an RV from host Robert Hardy for 02/27/2026 – 03/02/2026, and unfortunately this was one of the worst rental experiences I’ve had.On Friday, February 27 at 9:07 AM, Robert delivered and set up the RV at the campsite coordinates provided. He did this knowing we would not arrive until around 11:00–11:30 AM, which meant the RV was left unattended for approximately two hours before we even got there. I also never received the keys directly from the host, which already raised some concerns. When we arrived around 11:00–11:30 AM, everything appeared to be working. The lights were on and the kitchen sink water worked, so naturally we assumed the RV we rented was functional. That assumption lasted about one night. On Saturday morning, when we attempted to shower, the lights and water were no longer working. I contacted Robert that morning and he tried to guide me over the phone by telling me to turn knobs on and off to bring the RV back to life. We managed to get things working for about two hours, and then the battery died again. During this conversation he mentioned that this had been an ongoing issue with the RV’s 12V battery. So essentially we rented an RV that already had a known electrical problem. From that point forward the generator was not supplying power to the lights, water pump, or water system, which meant we could not shower for the entire trip and had to use bottled water just to wash our faces. Not exactly the RV experience anyone expects when paying for a “functional” rental.By Sunday afternoon and evening, the exact same issue continued. Nothing had changed.I asked Robert if he could come help us in person. He told me he couldn’t because he was 90 minutes away and suggested calling roadside assistance. When roadside assistance contacted him for authorization, he stated he would not pay anything out of pocket, so a technician was never sent. We were left to deal with a non-functioning RV for the remainder of the trip. After the trip ended, on March 3rd, I requested a refund because the RV clearly did not function as advertised. Shortly after that request, the host submitted a damage claim. He claimed the RV was dirty, that there were dirt stains on the carpet and couch, water marks on surfaces, dirty dishes, and even that step lights were missing. For context, we couldn’t wash dishes because there was no electricity to run the water pump, and I have video taken the morning we left on March 2 clearly showing the step lights sitting on the counter. I also have photos and video showing the bathroom and shower were spotless, which makes sense considering we couldn’t use them the entire trip. The host also took photos of the RV on February 26 at noon at his location, then delivered it to the campsite and later attempted to hold me responsible for damages even though the RV had been left unattended before I arrived. At this point it honestly feels like retaliation for requesting a refund after renting an RV that did not work as advertised.I have text messages, photos, and video evidence documenting everything.Camping trailers at campgrounds are expected to get a little dirt from normal use, but expecting guests to accept no electricity, no water, and no working shower while still being blamed for damages afterward is unreasonable. This was an extremely frustrating experience, and based on what happened I would strongly caution others before renting from this host. The picture I uploaded is a picture of step lights the host claims were not there and were taken and I wish I can upload the video I have that shows the step lights on the kitchen counter minutes before we left.
